Red Cross of Las Vegas
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA (KTNV Las Vegas) - It's a story that is Positively Las Vegas.
A number of companies along with some non-profit organizations are helping the Red Cross of Las Vegas kick off their year-long campaign by making some impressive donations.
The "Fire Hurts...Red Cross Helps" initiative is hoping to raise $250,000 to provide assistance to those affected by house fires. The Southern Nevada Burn Foundation pitched in $20,000.
Fire fighters from Henderson, Las Vegas, and North Las Vegas also presented a check for $5,000. The largest donation so far has come from United Way, which gave over $46,000.
The Red Cross says the money comes at the perfect time after their resources have been put to the test with just weeks into the new year.
"Just in the first 11 days of 2011 we've assisted 87 people, including 34 children, and provided financial assistance of over $16,000," said Jennifer Ramieh, spokesperson for the Red Cross Southern Nevada chapter.
Although the Red Cross received over $60,000 Tuesday, it still leaves them three quarters short of their goal.
