Operation Homefront
WAUSAU , WISCONSIN (Wausau Daily Herald) - It was a child’s Christmas dream come true: A room full of toys to choose from and no one else with whom to compete for them.
But a toy-filled room void of children wasn’t the holiday wish for the organizers of Operation Homefront’s Christmas gift giveaway.
Since the beginning of November, Operation Homefront has collected toys, games, clothing and other goods at Dollar Tree stores throughout central Wisconsin to donate to local military families. The organization gave away the items Saturday at Wausau Homes in Rothschild.
With one hour left to hand out toys and other items, only two families had stopped by Wausau Homes. But Operation Homefront will try to give away gifts for active and non-active military personnel again on Christmas Eve.
Wausau Homes partnered with Operation Homefront to host Saturday’s giveaway, and the company also donated $20,000 to the organization earlier this year from proceeds of home sales between April and July, said Todd Pagel, senior sales and marketing manager for Wausau Homes.
