Wal-Mart's charitable giving passes $467 million

NEW YORK, NEW YORK (News-Leader.com) - Wal-Mart has announced its charitable giving in the U.S. totaled more than $467 million in cash and in-kind gifts in fiscal year ending Jan. 31 -- an $89 million increase over the previous year's giving. In international markets, Wal-Mart gave $45 million in cash and in-kind gifts.

In Missouri, Wal-Mart gave more than $12 million, supporting nonprofits including Ozarks Food Harvest, the Foundation for Springfield Public Schools, Missouri Food Bank Network Inc., Community Health-in-Partnership Services, Every Child's Hope, Food Outreach Inc., Hope Alliance of Missouri, Meals on Wheels of Columbia, Mid-East Area Agency on Aging Foundation, Missouri River Relief, Operation Food Search Inc., Special Olympics Missouri, Southeast Missouri Food Bank and St. Louis Internship Program.

In the U.S., Wal-Mart doubled donations to food banks, g iving more than 127 million pounds of food -- the equivalent of nearly 100 million meals.
