DUBLIN, IRELAND (tv3.ie) - Debbie Harry and Blondie are urging fans to support the BEE Connected campaign to help save the flying insects from extinction.

The American rock band, who are promoting the campaign to raise awareness of the decline in the bee population, alongside their album Pollinator, are working closely with environmentalists; Pollinator Partnership, Friends of the Earth and Greenpeace.

Debbie explained in a statement, it's an issue she feels strongly about, as the survival of bees, who serve a critical function in the food chain, ecosystems and biodiversity, as the issue also impacts on the survival of the human race.

"Basically, my motives for supporting pollinators is survival; survival of us all, survival of the human race," she insisted.

Fans of the band whose career spans four decades, can back the campaign by purchasing a special limited edition Pollinator/Save The Bees T-shirts, with net proceeds going directly to the cause.

The band have set up a BEE Connected home page (blondie.net/beeconnected/) so fans can buy the T-shirts and find information on how they can personally get involved with the campaign.

Some of the advice includes suggestions such as buying locally, avoiding pesticides and to plant bee-friendly gardens in a bid to help save the beloved insects.

To create a buzz on social media, Blondie have also created a special yellow and black bee-inspired filter for fans to use to show support for the #BEEConnected mission.

Blondie's eleventh studio album Pollinator was release last month (May17).
