Toys for Tots

AGOURA HILLS, CALIFORNIA (Thousand Oaks Acorn) - The Conejo Valley Association of Realtors, in conjunction with the Marine Corps Reserve, concluded its 23rd annual Toys for Tots charity drive over the holidays.

Joining association members and staff for the final festivities were Mike Scioscia, manager of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and longtime Conejo Valley resident and Toys for Tots supporter; Staff Sgt. Hector S. Flores, USMC Toys for Tots Ventura County program coordinator; and 1st Sgt. Reggie L. Darden, program representative.

Flores and Dardenís unit, Weapons Company 2nd Battalion 23rd Marines, is based at Port Hueneme and has recently returned from deployment in Ramadi and Baghdad, Iraq.

Scioscia, who was recently named 2009 American League Manager of the Year, was impressed with the Realtorsí support and distribution system as well as the sizeable amount of donations.

Toys for Tots aids local charitable organizations such as Manna, Many Mansions, St. Paschalís Menís Club, Catholic Charities and the Childrenís Home Society.

Retired USMC Col. Brent Davis developed the Conejo Valley effort in conjunction with the Marine Corps more than two decades ago. Beverly Pickrell has donated her time for the past several years to coordinate the volunteers in sorting and organizing the donations for distribution.
