RIVERSIDE, CALIFORNIA (Press-Enterprise) - On Dec. 18, a caravan of 10 American Medical Response ambulances delivered more than 3,000 toys to Catholic Charities. The toys, which were collected through Toys for Tots, were processed, bagged and given out to more than 700 preregistered low-income families.

AMR provided more than 1,000 volunteer hours from its employees helping to collect toy donations for four weeks in a row, on Saturdays and Sundays, in four different locations: Corona, Norco, Temecula and Lake Elsinore.

“We’re really excited and privileged to be part of all of this. This is our second year in a row to partner with Catholic Charities and Toys for Tots,” said AMR Supervisor Lisa DeMetz.

Upon arrival, AMR employees quickly formed a chain unloading bags of toys from the ambulances and helping divide the piles of toys according to gender and age.

“Catholic Charities is blessed and honored with the effort, support, and generosity of AMR, and their dedicated team. They’ve helped us provide a more meaningful, exciting, and special Christmas to hundreds of children and to families,” said Jason Keck, Regional Coordinator of Catholic Charities.

Catholic Charities, in partnership with Toys for Tots, was chosen to help distribute the donated toys to struggling families in the Riverside County.

Smokey Siket, coordinator of Toys for Tots in Riverside County, was one of the many people who helped Catholic Charities bring joy to hundreds of struggling families. Siket donated his time by driving to different locations all over the Riverside County, picking up donation boxes full of toys, and delivering them to Catholic Charities.

“I love this. I’ve been doing this for over 35 years and this is the best Christmas gift for me. I get to play Santa Claus every year,” said Siket.
