CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA (All Africa) - Coast provincial director of medical health has called for accountability from organisations involved in the global fund project on HIV/AIDS. "We stabbed ourselves in the back last time. Let us not make the same mistake this time round. All the money must be accounted for," said Dr Michael Siminyu.

"We have a new constitution. If you are found to be corrupt it is you, the individual, who will be sacrificed not the organisation," he added. Siminyu was speaking at a Kenya Red Cross Society meeting held in Mombasa. Red Cross has received more than $40 million from the Global Fund to implement programmes to reduce HIV prevalence in the country which stands at 6.3 per cent.

Siminyu said some of the money received by the Global fund would be used in the Needle Exchange Programme that has drawn wide criticism from the public. "We will target all persons involved including men who bear the greatest responsibility. We also want to reach women who are the most affected by the scourge," said Dr Consolata Ogott.
