Kidney Research UK

BOURNE, U K (Bourne Local) - Somerset food services firm L&F Jones has raised more than £55,000 for Kidney Research UK in 12 months.

The family-run firm spent the year fundraising for the charity as part of events to mark the company's centenary.

As members of the Jones family have been affected by a genetic form of kidney disease, Kidney Research UK was the firm's top choice for its goodwill efforts.

Martin Jones, chairman of Radstock-based L&F Jones, said: "I am delighted that fundraising in our centenary year was such a tremendous success. I would like to thank our staff, customers and suppliers for their incredible support throughout the year. Kidney Research UK is a cause close to all our hearts and we hope that our efforts will make a real difference to the lives of those individuals living with kidney disease."

The family held golf days, a family fun day, charity walks and even published a celebrity cookbook with recipes donated from stars including Phil Collins and Sir Cliff Richard.

Actor and Kidney Research UK ambassador Stefan Booth, who grew up in the West Country and sadly lost his mother to kidney disease in 2011, also lent his support by attending a gala dinner at the Roman Baths in the city of Bath.

A final cheque for £56,500 has now been presented to representatives from Kidney Research UK.

All the money raised will help the charity to fund research that will help over three million people in the UK who have been diagnosed with kidney disease.

Rachel Andrews, Kidney Research UK manager, said: "We are extremely grateful to L&F Jones for all their hard work, dedication and determination to raise such a significant amount of money to help the charity's work. The family have made a huge difference in helping Kidney Research UK with its mission to fund life-saving research into kidney disease to help improve the quality of life of patients across the UK."
