Make-A-Wish Northern Alberta
CALGARY, CANADA (MetroNews Canada) - A 10-year-old Edmonton girl will be visiting an orphanage in Baja California, Mexico next month after Make-A-Wish Northern Alberta helped her achieve her dream.
Isabella Tonn, who was diagnosed with NLP Hodgkins two years ago, said she made the wish after learning about the orphanage from her doctor.
“When I know there’s kids in need without parents and that don’t always hove someone to play with and to be there for them, I thought I could do there and be there for them,” said Isabella, who has been healthy since the surgery to remove the tumor in her back.
While the wish might not be something every 10-year-old girl would ask for, parents Ryan and Sheila weren’t surprised at her generosity.
“We’re extremely proud of her. That giving, compassionate nature is just part of Isabella and who she is,” said Ryan.
“She’s always had a big heart for people in need ever since she was really little,” said mom Sheila.
The family will be travelling to Mexico August 8 and returning on the 15. Before they leave, Make-A-Wish hopes to gather donations of toys, colouring books, crayons and clothing to send with them.
“We’re hoping to get as much as we can. We’re really excited, and they’re very excited to take stuff with them to be able to give to the kids,” said Amber Benders, Volunteer and Communications Coordinator for Make-A-Wish Northern Alberta.
Make-A-Wish Northern Alberta hopes to grant 80 wishes this year. Since 1998, the chapter has made 500 wishes come true.
