SWINDON, U K (Swindon Advertiser) - Daring fundraisers from across Swindon and the south west put their fears aside to jump 10,000ft out of plane at Redlands Airfield on Saturday, helping raise funds for the UK’s leading cancer charity for children and young people, CLIC Sargent.
More than 40 supporters took to the clear skies above Wanborough for the challenge, experiencing breath-taking views across Wiltshire and Oxfordshire.
In tackling the ‘Fright Flight’, the team of 41 managed to raise £18,000 in sponsorship to support young cancer patients.
CLIC Sargent provides clinical, practical and emotional support for children and young people with cancer, and their families, from the point of diagnosis. All proceeds from the skydive will help CLIC Sargent provide vital services, including nurses and care professionals in hospital, grants to help families meet extra costs and free ‘Home from Home’ accommodation close to the main children’s cancer centres.
Sophie Porfirio, area fundraising manager for CLIC Sargent, said: “I’m so proud of all those who took part in the “Fright Flight” skydive to raise money for CLIC Sargent, they are far braver than me.
“This is the second consecutive year we have run this skydive at Redlands Airfield helping us raise over £30,000 overall, which will really make a difference to the lives of young cancer patients who we support.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our jumpers for their tremendous bravery and fundraising, as well as a big thank you to all of the staff and instructors at Redlands Airfield for keeping all of our participants so calm and giving them such an unforgettable experience.”
