DENVER, COLORADO (Examiner.com) - Actor Edward Norton has been on a mission over the past few months to raise money and awareness for the Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust. The New York City Marathon was Norton's first marathon, and he completed the race in 3:48:01, according to the race's unofficial athlete tracker. Official finishing times will be posted when they are available.
Norton passed the halfway point of the NYC Marathon in 1:48:08, and he made it to the 35K mark in 3:08:18. In a post-race interview, Edward Norton used one word to describe the experience of completing his first marathon in New York - "phenomenal." However, the race wasn't without its challenges. "You know you are going to hit tough spots, in a weird way mine came early in the race, but then I got my second wind around mile 18 and felt great the rest of the way," said Norton.
Edward Norton has made a number of media appearances to promote his charity of choice, and he has also taken to Twitter to raise money. According to his official fundraising page, Norton has raised almost $300,000 for the Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust by running the New York City Marathon.
His training for the NYC Marathon was not without challenges, as he frequently battled shin and achilles pain during his long training runs. He ran the marathon with three Maasai warriors, in addition to other celebrities like Alanis Morissette and David Blaine.
Anthony Edwards, the former star of NBC's ER, was also running the New York City Marathon for charity. Edwards ran for Shoe4Africa, a non-profit that is building a children's public hospital in Kenya. As the name suggests, the organization also donates shoes to needy children. Edwards completed the NYC Marathon today in 4:08:20. "It was good but it was so much harder than I imagined," Edwards said after the race.
