Tuscaloosa Metro Animal Shelter
BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA (Alabama's13.com) - Helping pets find homes, that is the goal for animal groups in Tuscaloosa.
The pet population in Tuscaloosa, since the April twenty-seventh tornado, has many animal shelters at capacity.
The "doggies displayed in the windows" need homes, and the Tuscaloosa Metro Animal Shelter is hoping they find ones soon.
Linda Workman, the shelter’s Assistant Director said, “The shelter right now is at capacity once again, which we never have stopped since April 27th to be honest. We did not get a break in January or February. We have been over flowed with animals since the tornado and it has not stopped. So this is like a blessing.”
The first thirty minutes of the adoption five pets found homes. A national organization, North Shore Animal League, is helping make those adoptions happen. The group is based out of New York. They take their tour bus across the country, and then local organizations, like the Tuscaloosa Metro Animal Shelter, are able to showcase their animals in the bus.
The group Alabama Spay/Neuter is also feeling the impact of the crowed pet population.
They have been helping the Tuscaloosa Metro Animal Shelter keep their population from over populating.
A volunteer for the Alabama Spay/Neuter said, “You put it all together, the spay/neuter clinic with the unwanted animals and you make hopefully the problem better. I would love to see the problem go away where there will be no more homeless animals.”
If the animal shelter is able to adopt out pets at the event they can accept more dogs and cats on their waiting list that also need homes.
