Humane Society of Charlotte
CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA (WCNC) - Nearly 30 dogs from Gaston County were transferred to the Humane Society in Charlotte on Wednesday.
A Gaston County resident was breeding the dogs and could no longer care for them. The breeder surrendered 27 small-breed dogs to Gaston County Animal Control, which then called the Humane Society for assistance with caring for the dogs.
“Every one of them needs significant care,” said veterinarian Judi Vogt. “It’s going to take a while to get them all ready.”
The Humane Society says the owner didn’t feel she was mistreating the animals. They all had names and rabies shots. This was not a typical puppy mill. Nonetheless, the animals were not groomed, some have teeth problems and many have worms.
“It’s cruelty is what it is,” Vogt said.
Right now, the dog are at the shelter on Toomey Avenue in west Charlotte.
Most, if not all, will be ready for adoption in the next couple of days.
Jorge Ortega, the Vice President of Operations for the Humane Society of Charlotte, says he wouldn’t be surprised if they were adopted out by the weekend.
If you are interested in adopting one of the dogs, or any of the other animals at the shelter, head to the Humane Society of Charlotte.
