HUNTINGTON, WEST VIRGINIA (WOWK) - The American Red Cross issued a release Wednesday, updating its efforts to help residents in Logan County recover from the flooding and severe weather that hit in March.

According to the release, volunteers are still in the area helping residents.

"Nearly 300 homes in Logan County were affected by the flooding," said Cheryl Ingraham, Director of Emergency Services, American Red Cross's West Virginia Region.

Approximately 1,000 adults and children were affected when their homes were either damaged or destroyed.

Red Cross partnered with several community organizations to provide more than 5,000 meals and snacks, along with cleaning and other bulk items, the release stated.

Red Cross staff and volunteers are also working with people to address mental and emotional health needs.

"Oftentimes, recovery following a disaster isn't limited to addressing physical property damage," Ingraham said. "An important part of Red Cross's response in any disaster involves supporting victims' mental and emotional well-being. So far, we have made nearly 150 of those kinds of support contacts as a result of the flooding in Logan County."
