LAS VEGAS, NEVADA (Examiner.com) - The Animal Foundation today announced that more than 100 animals found their forever homes at this past weekend's Spring Fling Adoption Event, sponsored by the ASPCA. The Las Vegas open-admission shelter was one of 55 animal rescue organizations receiving grant funding to participate in the first ever ASPCA ‘Mega Match-a-thon’ event on Saturday, March 31 and Sunday, April 1. The ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®) granted nearly $500,000 to support large-scale adoption events held simultaneously nationwide in an effort to save more lives of shelter animals.
“We're so happy with the results of this weekend,” said Meghan Scheibe, Marketing and PR Manager. “The big goal of our 'Spring Fling' Mega Match-A-Thon was to double the number of dog and cat adoptions from the same weekend in 2011. The 2011 number was 60. And we found homes for 102 animals in only 16 hours! Some of the patrons that visited weren't ready to adopt, and mentioned they'd be back. We know as a result of this event, more than 120 of our pets will find forever homes.”
This past weekend's "Spring Fling" offered incentives for adopters that the shelter does not usually have the resources to provide, including free collars and custom ID tags for every pet adopted. Additionally, patrons who adopted a pet this Saturday or Sunday received a free family four-pack of tickets to the Foundation's annual fundraiser, Best In Show - a spoof on the American Kennel Club's Westminster Dog Show, with shelter dogs competing for the title of top dog.
"This weekend's event would not have been possible without the support of the ASPCA, members of our amazing community, and the local businesses who partnered and participated," adds Scheibe. "Pet overpopulation is such a giant problem in this community, and this weekend, members of our community rallied to find these pets, who have found themselves in our care through no fault of their own, loving homes."
If you missed the vent please don't fret! There are always plenty of adoptable pets at the Animal Foundation. Stop by and meet your new best friend.
