MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN (FOX6Now.com Milwaukee) - For the first time ever, the Wisconsin Humane Society stayed open all night Saturday, March 31st through Sunday, April 1st with one goal – to find homes for as many animals as they could.

Charlie Getka took his family to the Wisconsin Humane Society during the 24-hour Mega Match-A-Thon sponsored by the ASPCA, to look for a new dog. His children couldn’t wait! “They are excited. I could hardly keep them in the truck on the way up here,” Getka said.

Getka’s wife, Sandra says they’ve been looking for a dog for quite some time, so they decided to check out the Wisconsin Humane Society’s 24-hour adoption event. “You look at their little faces and you wish you could take them all home!” Sandra Getka said.

The event kicked off at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 31st and ran through 11:00 a.m. Sunday, April 1st. People came out to check out the available animals overnight – some even wearing their pajamas! Officials say the turnout was huge, and the Wisconsin Humane Society was able to break their previous single-day adoption record. “It’s an amazing accomplishment to break all of the records we’ve ever set over the past 130 years! We’re thankful to the community for supporting us,” Angela Speed with the Wisconsin Humane Society said.

The Wisconsin Humane Society had a goal of finding homes for 150 animals during the 24-hour event. Dolly is a dog with a heart condition, and was the 150th adoption – going home with Melissa and Matt Peppler of Oak Creek. Dolly is one of many animals that now has a new home and a new family to shower her with lots of love.
