STAMFORD, CONNECTICUT (Westport-News) - Save the Children, a Westport-based nonprofit organization focused on helping children in need around the world, has received a $10,000 grant from Staples Foundation, the private foundation created by office goods maker Staples.
The funding will support The West Virginia Literacy program, which works to improve youth reading skills, according to a Save the Children news release. To date, the foundation has awarded $20,000 to Save the Children.
The program was created to help increase the percentage of students who read at or above grade level and enables youth to increase literacy skills through fun reading activities, the release states. The funding will help Save the Children expand its literacy program to three new sites in West Virginia and reach more children in need of critical academic support.
