NAPERVILLE, ILLINOIS (TribLocal) - Colonial Cafe & Ice Cream in Naperville served up just over 2,000 pancakes during Penny Pancake Day Thursday April 22nd. While guests were grabbing up the penny pancakes they were being greeted by Clifford the Big Red Dog and a few other furry friends from A.D.O.P.T. Pet Shelter. Colonial Cafe raised $1,335 in donations for A.D.O.P.T. Pet Shelter.

Once a year Naperville’s Colonial Cafe picks a day to serve pancakes for only a penny! In return of the penny pancakes Colonial Cafe asks for a voluntary donation to the sponsored charity. A.D.O.P.T Pet Shelter is a private, no kill, non-profit organization that provides temporary shelter and care to dogs and cats in search of their forever homes. Learn more about A.D.O.P.T. Pet Shelter at http://www.adoptpetshelter.org/

Colonial Cafe also has created the Colonial Cares Benefit Night fundraising program designed to unite families, friends, neighbors, students and faculty for a night out that includes a tasty dinner and legendary ice cream desserts. Each Colonial Cafe dedicates one night each week to an individual organization, collecting guest receipts between 4:30 p.m. and close from all guests who mention that they are with the benefitting organization while paying at the register. At the end of the night, Colonial tallies the total sales and donates up to 20% back to the designated organization.

There are Colonial Cafes in Algonquin, Aurora, Crystal Lake, Elgin, Naperville and one each on the east and west sides of St. Charles.
