Animal Welfare League
DENVER, COLORADO (Examiner.com) - About a week ago, no one would have considered the fluffy blonde dog to be a lucky dog. She was abandoned at the Animal Welfare League, hoping for rescue before her time was up at the open admission shelter. Then, this energetic darling hit the jackpot.
Natural pet food company Spring Naturals is sponsoring a “Spring Into Action” initiative starting in May to recognize everyday heroes in the animal rescue community. Last Wednesday, the company stepped up to the plate to do more than just sponsor a contest by rescuing this particular dog, now named Spring.
With the help of two Chicago organizations that spend a lot of hours rescuing and volunteering at AWL, Spring Naturals and Project Rescue Chicago are sponsoring Spring to give her a second chance. She’s now being fostered by PRC and Trio Animal Foundation has pitched in to pay her vet bills (spay, vaccines, basic check-up). And, adorable Spring will be doing some spokesdog duties until she finds a home.
“Project Rescue Chicago is a proud partner of Spring Naturals. We believe Spring the dog is a perfect example of all the wonderful, loving animals you can find at your local shelter,” says Bridgid Nolan, founder of Project Rescue Chicago. “Spring was sitting at a local shelter thru no fault of her own, and was passed over by other groups because of her enthusiastic personality. PRC loves to take dogs like Spring into our program as they are so fun to work with and train, and we love to see their personalities develop.”
Nolan will be working personally with this energetic dog to teach her puppy manners and basic training, which will help her find a forever home. And, if you opt to adopt Spring, Spring Naturals will provde the first year of food. So far, Nolan is enjoying getting to know this sweet dog. What more is there to know about Spring?
“She is a 1-1.5 year old golden retriever/shepherd mix who is alert, engaging, enthusiastic and very eager to please people,” says Nolan. “Spring is great with dogs and is learning all her basic commands like sit, down, wait, drop it and leave it. She loves to go for walks and is a happy, prancey little girl.
Starting in May, Spring Naturals will be recognizing everyday heroes by selecting a winner each month. The animal group that hero supports will be featured on the company’s Facebook page and each honoree will receive a 26 pound bag of food and some treats. In March, a winner will be named with that person’s favorite shelter or rescue receiving $2,000 in food plus a $500 cash donation.
So start thinking of some nominees and follow Spring Naturals on Facebook or check out their webpage for updates. Learn more about Project Rescue Chicago online and consider adopting Spring or one of their other dogs. Also, check them out of Facebook for plenty of updates on Spring and the organization’s other activities.
