Free The Children

WINDSOR, CANADA (Windsor Star) - A local high school student is holding a fundraiser Thursday to help him travel to Ecuador to help less fortunate people.

This will be the second trip Tyler Girard will make through Free The Children, an international charity that works to send youth volunteers to impoverished areas in the world to create positive change.

Last August, Girard helped build a school during a threeweek trip to Kenya through the organization. He said he expects it to be a similar mission in Ecuador but it depends on the needs of the community and a medical facility might be a greater necessity.

"Kenya was one of my big dreams. That trip changed my life and I know now that I need to continue doing stuff like that," said Girard, a Grade 12 student at Holy Names high school. "Ecuador is a huge next step in my dreams of helping others and making a difference in the lives of people all over the world."

He has raised around $1,000 for his trip to Ecuador in August but the total trip costs around $4,000 so he said he's hoping the community will help him raise the remainder.

Girard said for people who are also interested in contributing to positive change in the world, attending the pasta dinner fundraiser he will be holding Thursday is a great way to support the cause.

Doors will open at the Teutonia Club at 6 p.m. with tickets at the door available for $17. Advance tickets can be purchased for $15 by calling Girard at 519817-6011 or 519-250-1205.
