Meals on Wheels of Chester County
WEST CHESTER, PENNSYLVANIA (Patch.com) - State Senator Andy Dinniman recently joined volunteers from Meals on Wheels of Chester County to deliver meals to homebound residents in the West Chester area.
“Meals on Wheels provides an invaluable service to the elderly, disabled and homebound residents of our region. Its clients are our friends, neighbors and family, and for many this program allows them to remain in their own homes with familiar surroundings,” Dinniman said.
Dinniman participated in deliveries and talked with meal recipients as part of the organization’s annual “Mayors for Meals” drive. He also took the opportunity to let them know about other important services Pennsylvania provides for those in need, such as the PACE prescription assistance program and the Property Tax and Rent Rebate Program.
“I want to thank the many volunteers that make this crucial program possible,” he said. “For so many volunteers, delivering meals and connecting with those in need is not just a service, but a deeply rewarding experience.”
Meals on Wheels of Chester County began in 1971 and has since grown to include 20 chapters serving approximately 600 homebound residents five days a week. Currently, there are approximately 33 routes that serve meals Monday through Friday at noontime. The organization is always looking for support and volunteers, especially in the Coatesville area.
“It is such a small commitment of time and such a rewarding experience and so important to our clients,” said program director Jeani Purcell. “If more people knew about it, they would definitely get involved.”
