DORSET, U K (View Online) - Raising money for homeless charity, Nightstop, eight of Sidmouth’s youngsters took to the streets outside The Arches for a sponsored sleepout.
Despite the elements, the fearless team stayed out the whole night raising more than £500, with £80 collected from passers by during last Friday night and the early hours of Saturday morning.
The youngsters from Sidmouth Youth Council who took part in the fundraising event were Nick Gidley, Alfie Weaver, Ryan Prouse, Abi James, Hayley Evis, Hannah Glanville, Layla Templeman and Jamie Clayden.
Supporting the sleep out team was a group of adult volunteers who took shifts throughout the night to watch over the young group.
Also in attendance was the St John Ambulance to ensure the fundraisers were safe.
Sidmouth Youth Council Chairman, Jamie-Rose Clayden, said: “The sleep out went really well in the end and we are pleased with the amount we raised.
“We all got soaking wet around 3am and our boxes got soaked, and it was fairly cold, but bearable.
“It just makes you think about the people who sit on the streets every night with only the luxury of a cardboard box.
“I don’t think anyone really slept but it was worthwhile doing it and the adult volunteers were really brilliant, keeping our spirits high.
“Thank you to everyone who supported us and thanks also for the kindness of St John Ambulance crew who stayed all night.”
