LONDON, U K (Contact Music) - Former Spice Girls star Melanie Chisholm donned her sports shoes on Thursday (22Mar12) to run a mile for a British charity.

The singer, known as Sporty Spice during the group's heyday, agreed to tackle the challenge for Sport Relief, which raises cash for good causes through athletic events.

In a post on her Twitter.com page, she writes, "Sporty is back!! Omg I'm one of those people who runs funny!!!! I never knew."

And her former bandmate Emma Bunton was full of encouragement for her pal, tweeting: "Go Melanie, Go Melanie! See you in a bit, will you be sweaty?"
