VANCOUVER, CANADA (The Province) - If you have spent any time on the West Coast of Canada in the last, oh say, three plus decades its likely you have heard of Terry David Mulligan.
A broadcasting mainstay Mulligan, who was an RCMP officer in the 1960s, programmed Canada’s first underground FM station CKLG/FM, now known as CFOX. In the 1980s he branched out from radio and hit the TV airwaves. First up he hosted CBC’s popular video show Good Rockin’ Tonight. From there he landed on MuchMusic and delivered the Much West show for well over a decade. Other resume highlights include work for Movie Television and Star! His most recent media outing is wine-flavoured Tasting Room Radio.
Friday, fans and maybe even foes of the colourful on-air guy can have a laugh at his expense and raise money for the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society (GVFBS) at the Federico’s Celebrity Comedy Roast Dinner. Partial proceeds from the event, hosted by local comedian Patrick Maliha, will go to the GVFBS.
“I’m doing it for two reasons,” said Mulligan when asked why he would agree to being verbally skewered in public. “One is to raise funds for the Vancouver Food Bank. what’s not to like about that. And I’m a friend and fan of Patrick Maliha. Mahlia. Mahaleigha . . . whatever.”
Roasters ready to take a run at Mulligan include broadcaster David Pratt, comedians Linda and Bob Robertson, Urban Rush’s Fiona Forbes and Michael Eckford, Erica Sigurdson, Tanyaleee Davis and Carter Hortie and the Province’s own Glen Schaefer, who co-wrote the recent Mulligan memoir Mulligan’s Stew: My Life . . . So Far
“I haven’t thought about the roast, but I’ll just take my lumps. I think that’s best for both sides,” said Mulligan. “My mantra will be ‘food bank, Fooooood bank. Fffoooooood Bank.’”
