SUNNYVALE, CALIFORNIA (Yahoo! Contributors Network) - As part of its ongoing philanthropic support of strategic animal health initiatives, Pfizer Animal Health contributed a total of $20,000 to the American Humane Association (AHA) and the National Future Farmers of America Foundation.

“We have partnered with American Humane Association to gain a better understanding of the human-animal bond, explore the interface between animals and humans in the treatment of disease and overall health, and improve emergency and disaster relief response in times of need,” said Michael McFarland, DVM, DABVP, Group Director of U.S. Veterinary Operations for Companion Animals for Pfizer Animal Health. “The donation will benefit AHA’s Red Star Program, in emergency preparedness and disaster relief training and efforts.”

“The donation to FFA is another step in our partnership with this innovative organization, as we work together to continually improve training and promote entrepreneurship in future generations,” said Rob Kelly, Vice President, U.S. Cattle Operations for Pfizer Animal Health. “Our partnership with FFA focuses on connecting FFA members with their local veterinarians and developing future leaders in animal health.”

To make this donation possible, Pfizer employees pledged during their annual meeting to show support for these strategic philanthropic partners.

Support of AHA and FFA is a component of Pfizer Animal Health’s Commitment to Veterinarians™ platform—which offers support through training and education, research and development, investing in the future of the veterinary profession, and philanthropy.

About FFA

"Future Farmers of America" was founded by a group of young farmers back in 1928. Their mission was to prepare future generations for the challenges of feeding a growing population. They taught that agriculture is more than planting and harvesting-- it's a science, it's a business and it's an art. FFA continues to help the next generation rise up to meet those challenges by helping its members to develop their own unique talents and explore their interests in a broad range of career pathways. So today, while they remain the Future Farmers of America, they are also Future Biologists, Future Chemists, Future Veterinarians, Future Engineers and Future Entrepreneurs of America, too.
