LA CROSSE, WISCONSIN (La Crosse Tribune) - The La Crosse Community Foundation awarded $121,730 in grants and pledges to local nonprofit agencies in its first quarter.
“These grants provide critical funding to projects that improve the quality of life for so many people who live in our area,” the foundations grants committee chairwoman Sandy Brekke said in a statement announcing the awards.
“Whether a grant funds a youth program, theater construction, kitchen renovations, anti-violence programs, economic development or nonprofit leadership, all these special projects make our community a better place for all of us.”
Recipients include:
-African American Mutual Assistance Network: $5,000 ($4,890 from the NYSP fund) for the Next Step Program.
-La Crosse Community Theatre: $70,000 for Performing Arts Center.
-La Crosse County Health Department: $5,532 for supplies to encourage walking and biking to school and work
-La Crosse County Human Services for the Domestic Abuse Task Force: $780 for the Hmong Culture/Dom-estic Violence program.
-Onalaska Foundation for Educational Excellence: 1-to-1 matching grant up to $6,500 from the Harold Lemke Fund for a Random Acts of Kindness program in Onalaska schools.
-Place of Grace: $15,000 for a kitchen remodel.
-Ridge History Park: $5,000 for its Visitor Center.
-School District of La Crosse: $3,000 for washers and dryers for three area elementary schools.
-Striped Strivers 4-H Club: 1-to-1 matching grant up to $2,500 for historic school house relocation.
-Viterbo: $8,418 for the second year of the Certification in Nonprofit Leadership.
