Challenged Athletes Foundation
GULFPORT, MISSISSIPPI (Sun Herald) - VAVi Sport & Social Club (VAVi), San Diego’s premier coordinator of social events, charity opportunities and adult sports leagues, is proud to announce that the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF) has been designated as the official charity beneficiary of the second annual Ridiculous Obstacle Challenge (ROC) Race taking place at the Del Mar Race Track on May 19-20, 2012.
Inspired by television’s popular obstacle course game shows, the 5K ROC Race will feature more than 20 outrageous and challenging obstacles providing fun and entertainment for both competitors and spectators. VAVi’s fundraising goal is $50,000, and the first 200 people to raise $250 for the Challenged Athletes Foundation will be invited to a special ROC Race VIP lounge hosted by CAF supporter and NBA Hall of Famer Bill Walton. VIP members also get entered into a raffle to win great prizes including an Opening Day package to the Del Mar Race Track and a behind the scenes tour of ESPN’s LA Live studios.
“I am extremely passionate about the Challenged Athletes Foundation and am privileged, honored and excited for the opportunity to partner w/ VAVi & ROC Race in support of the CAF,” said Bill Walton. “This event presents a great opportunity to showcase the amazing talents of challenged athletes and inspire a large audience action. I encourage you to make a donation today or join our fundraising teams and come to be part of something special.”

All funds raised for CAF will go specifically to its Operation Rebound program that provides unparalleled sports opportunities and support to troops and veterans of any branch of service and first responders who have served honorably and have suffered permanent physical injuries. A number of CAF athletes are expected to participate in this year’s ROC Race, and a bike or hand-cycle will be presented on stage to a challenged athlete if the $50,000 fundraising goal is met.
ROC Race participants interested in raising funds for CAF can register here. For more information and to register for the ROC Race, please visit www.rocrace.com. Registration options include individual competitors, four-person teams and unlimited team sign-ups (for groups of five or more). Awards will be given out in each category for best ROC Race times and best costumes worn for the race. For information about sponsorship or expo booth opportunities email Keith@govavi.com.
