LEICESTER, U K (This is Somerset) - Frome Leisure Centre has helped raise more than 400 for the British Heart Foundation (BHF) after a six-hour cycle race.

Customers and staff at the Avalon Leisure-run centre, along with other centres in Wells and Strode, helped raise the funds as part of its second Race for Red fundraiser on Friday.

In total, 405 was raised for the BHF, Avalon Leisure's corporate charity partner.

The event saw the different centres race each other to see who could post the biggest cumulative distance over a six-hour period.

Frome Leisure Centre came out top for the second year running, cycling 369.65km, just pipping Wells Leisure Centre to the post by 4km.

The total distance cycled across all four centres 1,077km is equivalent to cycling from the company's headquarters in Street to Milan.

Avalon Leisure's marketing coordinator, Brendon Mitchell, said: "We would like to thank everyone, customers and staff, who took part in the race and who donated so generously to what is a great cause."
