Habitat for Humanity Singapore
SINGAPORE CITY, SINGAPORE (Channel News Asia) - Students from Anglo-Chinese School (International) have raised S$40,000 for Habitat for Humanity.
The non-profit Christian organisation will use the money to buy furniture for low-income families, as part of its 'Under No Roof' campaign.
To mark the seventh year of the 'Under No Roof' campaign in Singapore, some 500 students turned 'builders' for a day at Fort Canning Park.
They built 50 houses out of paper bricks across the park.
Each brick represented two dollars raised.
This is the first time Habitat for Humanity embarked on a fund-raising collaboration with a school in Singapore.
Habitat for Humanity Singapore national director Yong Teck Meng, said: "Through the project, we hope that young people will pause and think about their lives. Hopefully, they will contribute better to the elimination of poverty around the world. We are absolutely delighted with ACS International for the work they have done. Our work is actually quite minimal. The students and the staff were the one who went all out."
