March of Dimes
RICHMOND, VIRGINIA (Richmond Times Dispatch) - This spring the March of Dimes held its March for Babies fundraising event, and Lexus of Richmond has been awarded the top team among area businesses for its fundraising. The award was presented last Friday, Aug. 12, during an employee health fair at Lexus of Richmond.
“The March for Babies is our single largest fundraising event for the entire year,” said Angela Davis, the division director at March of Dimes in Richmond. “This year, Lexus of Richmond was our number one fundraising team, raising more than $15,000.”
“Our organization believes that children have the potential to change the world. We echo this belief as we move into the 17th year of our Pursuit of Perfection scholarship in addition to supporting an organization such as the March of Dimes that helps babies begin healthy lives,” said Carl Burrell, the VP and general manager at Lexus of Richmond.
A DYNAMIC TEAM AT LEXUS OF RICHMOND
The March for Babies fundraiser took place from March to May of this year. “The staff at Lexus of Richmond worked very hard,” said Davis. “They’re a dynamic team that stretched and used every means they had to fundraise. I think they’re going to continue to get bigger and bigger for us.”
“Our team did an incredible job,” said Burrell. “We held a bowling for babies outing, where we bowled with our employees to raise money. Our owners were also engaged as they donated gifts with their service invoice or directly to our cashier. We put up a huge March for Babies gift board and put customer names on the board when they gave. Our biggest fundraiser was a yard sale where employees baked treats and donated items from their home for the sale.”
The fundraising money helps the March of Dimes in its core mission as the leading maternal-infant health nonprofit organization in the country. “With our research and outreach in the communities, we educate women about premature birth defects and infant mortality. We fight to see that all babies are born healthy,” said Davis.
THE LEXUS LIFESTYLE INCLUDES THE ‘PURSUIT OF POTENTIAL’ INITIATIVE
The last fundraising push for Lexus of Richmond was Lexus’ “Pursuit of Potential” initiative, where Lexus matches funds from the dealership for an approved charity.
“Our customers know they’re dealing with an organization that cares about people and that gives back to the community,” said Burrell. “What better way of showing that you care than through the wellness and benefit of small children or babies? I don’t know how it can get much better than that.”
