Project Phil will be on his way to Best Friends Animal Society

SAN JOSE , CALIFORNIA (Examiner.com) - Nearly one-and-a-half years ago, Phil, a shepherd and Labrador mix was rescued with an embedded chain around his neck and throat. The severe infection, the burns on his back and shoulders, and heartworms reflected the abusive and sad life this young dog suffered at the hands of an unknown owner who threw Phil away like yesterday's trash.

Through the long road of recovery, Phil bonded with the staff of the SPCA of the Triad, but the fear and anxiety of his past continues to haunt the young dog. He will tear and chew at fences trying to escape, and at this point Phil isn't a candidate for adoption.

Phil's story however is heading for a happy ending. Best Friends Animal Society in Kanab, Utah has accepted Phil into their sanctuary. Whether or not Phil will ever be adoptable doesn't matter because nothing bad will ever happen to him again. At the sanctuary, the unwanted, lame, old, ill, or too traumatized by past abuse can find a unique home and haven. Many of the "unadoptables" arriving at the sanctuary, however have moved on to wonderful futures. Here is the place which will be perfect for Phil; here is where he will heal.

Phil is expected at Best Friends on June 3; his spot is only guaranteed until then because of the demand of animals on the waiting list. A trained SPCA technician Ashley and a volunteer will make the six-day 4400 mile round trip by car because Phil is too anxious to be a candidate for flying on a commercial aircraft. His trip is expected to cost $2500, and your help is desperately needed.

The SPCA of the Triad will be launching their Mobile Spay and Neuter Clinic in August, and all available funds have been invested in the project, but Phil has not been forgotten. The staff will miss him terribly, but with your help Phil will have a chance at a new life.
