Charity Description in 500 words or less.
Transparency International (TI) is an international, nongovernmental, nonpartisan and nonprofit devoted to combating corruption at national and international levels. Since its founding in 1993, TI has been widely recognized by placing the fight against corruption on the global agenda. The challenge of keeping the issue of corruption as a priority on the global conscience is one of the main elements of the ongoing mission of TI. TI is committed to build broad coalitions of individuals and organizations, to work with them in reducing corruption and introducing reforms. Rather than aim at 'naming names', and to denounce individuals, companies or governments corrupt, TI fight against corruption at the national and international level through the construction and strengthening of systems integrity. At the international level, the TI movement's main objective is to infuse the global system of values transparency and accountability standards as publicly recognized. The International Secretariat of TI is working with the private sector and international organizations such as OECD, to strengthen the legal and political framework of international business. While the International Secretariat directs the international agenda of the organization, more than 80 National Chapters in different countries are leading the movement of IT at the grassroots level. TI national chapters are dedicated to creating awareness among people about the damage caused by bribery and corruption, and to identify methods and to contribute constructively to reform the legal systems and national politicians. Through the building of coalitions, TI brings together key players from government, private sector, academia, professional associations, the media, and various civil society organizations.
