Neniwo/lamifuthi Charity Profile

Founding NENIWO/LAMIFUTHI is a result of real life experiences by its founder, Mrs. Nester T. Moyo. During her work as a programme manager for an orphan program, she got to learn how children live in the community after they have lost their parents. She got to learn the attitudes of the community members to children without parents even more so if the children had lost their parents to AIDS. The community members forget that the child is "for them all". The community does not like these children because they think they all are "thieves", "delinquents", "dirty" etc. What the community does not realise is that the behaviour of the children is a result of the situation they find themselves in - lack of food, shelter, education and not having what other children have. The community members fail to realise that even these children have needs similar to children with parents. Even these children need an adult to supervise them and teach them what is acceptable and what is not - setting boundaries and imposing discipline. Even these children can be groomed into respectable members of the society in which they live. Even these children have dreams of their own. And their dreams are not about how they will grow up to rob the shop next door, no, not at all! Their dreams are about how they will grow up and fly an aeroplane, be a doctor, a nurse, a teacher - if only they could go to school like other children. If you adopt a child and send him/her to school you help to break the cycle of poverty. NENIWO/LAMIFUTHI has identified school fees, books and uniforms as the most critical education costs for the orphans in Zimbabwe. Therefore we focus on raising (structural) funds to pay for these costs when the family of the orphan is not capable of doing so.
