Root-Pike WIN Charity Profile

Root-Pike WIN is a grassroots collaborative that awards grants and offers advisement to organizations for projects that preserve, promote, and protect land and water resources in the Root-Pike Watershed. As a granting organization, Root-Pike WIN is proud of its applicant friendly granting process.

Our vision is to foster the Root-Pike and adjacent Lake Michigan watersheds where the integrity of the land, water, and air resources are protected and enhanced, while maintaining the strength and sustainability of the regional economy, and contributing to the health and social well being of all community members.

Our mission is to protect, restore, and sustain the ecosystem in the watersheds through the funding and facilitation of a regional network of locally initiated projects.

Root-Pike WIN Volunteer Information

Root-Pike WIN volunteers review projects and help determine which ones receive grants. Our volunteers have diverse backgrounds. Some work on land or water issues for a living, others paddle, fish, or bird watch in our watersheds for recreation and many serve on other organization's committees to improve our watersheds.

Volunteers meet as needed between February -April and September-November to review project applications. The Resource Group, all four Task Groups, meets in April and November to determine which projects will receive Root-Pike WIN grants.

In the remaining months volunteers have the opportunity to work on organizational development as part of the Steering, Fund Development, or Marketing Committees.
