Racine County Food Bank RCFB Charity Profile
Our mission is to efficiently and effectively obtain resources and facilitate the distribution of food and other necessities through a network of direct service providers to individuals and families of Racine County who are in need. In doing so, we will equalize the distribution of resources throughout the community and advocate on behalf of the community to reduce hunger.
For 20 years Racine County Food Bank (RCFB) has operated an efficient and successful emergency food program. Funding and support of its operation has come from all areas of the Community as well as from the Emergency Food And Shelter Program and the USDA Emergency Food Assistance Program which are managed by RCFB. Because of community involvement and a great staff, the Food Bank is able to help supply the emergency food network in Racine County with more than 44,000 pounds of food each month!
Racine County Food Bank was formed early in 1983 and named Racine County Project Emergency. At the beginning, Project Emergency offered food, shelter, clothing, and other emergency needs. Starting with several cases of donated food and a part-time coordinator, the agency has grown to face the challenges of recessions and plant closings here in Racine. RCFB has 2 staff members managing food drives and collections, warehousing, and distribution of more than 330,000 pounds of food each year! The Food Bank, serving as ‘Racine County’s United Way of Food’, distributes to food pantries, emergency shelters, community meal sites, social service agencies, and over 50 affiliates throughout Racine County!
