Humane Society of Parkersburg Charity Profile

The Humane Society of Parkersburg is an advocate for all animals, striving to foster humane treatment and to prevent cruelty and abuse. We provide animal control for our community while offering a shelter for homeless cats and dogs. Working with our community through education we strive to inspire compassion and respect for all living things, while stressing the importance of spaying-neutering and the value of the adoption of homeless animals.

As Parkersburg and Wood County's only private, non-profit animal agency that also is open admissions, HSOP chooses to accept any and all animals in need. Through adoptions, education programs and spay-neuter efforts, HSOP offers proactive solutions to the pet overpopulation crisis in our area.

Humane Society of Parkersburg Volunteer Information

Volunteers are very important to the Humane Society of Parkersburg! Whether you have an hour a week - or an hour a month - HSOP relies on the assistance of caring, hardworking volunteers to help our animals find forever homes. The HSOP receives about 6,000 animals each year and to continue our work, we need your help as a volunteer. Our shelter offers volunteer opportunities both within the shelter and outside the shelter--involving animals and without animals. There are many, many ways you can be involved.

All Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age or accompanied by an adult, abide by the shelter volunteer policy and attend a volunteer orientation session. Orientation classes are held every month and require scheduling in advance.
