Big Brothers Big Sisters View Charity Profile
For more than 50 years locally, Big Brothers Big Sisters has been recognized as one of the most effective youth development programs in the United States. Our program matches a volunteer Big Brother or Big Sisters with a child who could benefit from a one-to-one relationship with a caring adult.
Our Community-Based Mentoring program is a one-year program in which the Big and Little consistently meet 2-4 times a month.* Matches are made with considerations to such things as geographic location, interests, activities and personalities.
The School-Based Mentoring Program is an innovative approach created by Big Brothers Big Sisters to reach a more diverse population of children. The program is designed to foster youth's academic development as well as improve social skills. The volunteer meets with the student on the school campus, once a week during school hours, for a minimum of one year. It is our goal that through academic support, positive role modeling, and a one-to-one friendship, students will succeed.

Big Brothers Big Sisters Volunteer Information
Mentors vary in age, gender, professions and interests. One quality all mentors share is the desire to offer emotional support, guidance, consistency, and friendship. Through a mentor's encouragement, a boy or girl can achieve his/her potential.
Getting together is a great time for both Bigs and Littles. It doesn’t require a special occasion or expensive activities; just a few times every month sharing simple things you already enjoy with a young person. Things like….
Shooting hoops
Playing a board game
Sharing a pizza
Taking a walk in the park
Just hanging out and talking
Big Brothers Big Sisters Donation Information
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Puget Sound receives 96% of our funding from private sources. Support from individuals like you made it possible to provide mentors for 2,500 children in our community last year. And we know they need them. It isn’t easy being a kid these days. In these complex and confusing times, children need a caring adult to be a mentor and a friend – someone they can talk to and have fun with.
Kids with a Big Brother or Big Sister show real differences in their personal and academic lives. 78% of every dollar you give goes directly to making and supporting matches. To see where your money goes, click here. We know Bigs change kids lives, and we know that you want your contributions to directly support youth mentoring. Your donation will be used to:
Recruit new Big Brother and Big Sister volunteers.
Cover the costs of background checks and insurance.
Ensure that trained professionals match children to caring, responsible Bigs.
Offer one-on-one, ongoing supervision and support for every match.
Provide cultural and social activities to children who would not otherwise have the opportunity to experience them.
No matter how much you give, your contribution will improve the lives of young people in our communities. Your donation will help children gain self-confidence, succeed academically, make positive choices, and build a healthy community
