The Humane Society for Seattle/King County Charity Profile
The Seattle Humane Society has been operating for over 100 years as a private, nonprofit animal welfare organization. We are proud to serve the people and animals of King County with a variety of programs including adoptions, veterinary services, dog training classes, a pet food bank, and humane education for children of all ages. Through our outreach, advocacy, and services, we strive to ensure that animal companionship is accessible to all.
We have no affiliation at all with King County Animal Care & Control shelters (Kent and Crossroads) nor with Seattle Animal Shelter. They are municipal shelters supported by your tax dollars. The Humane Society of Seattle/King County (also known as the Seattle Humane Society) is private and receives no local, state or federal support. We are not affiliated with the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) or with the American SPCA (ASPA). Humane societies and SPCAs are all independent. We do have a contract with the cities of Renton and Medina and we board their stray dogs during the holding period. After the stray hold has passed, if the pet passes health and behavior testing, we make the available for adoption. We do try to help the King County Animal Care & Control by rescuing some of their adoptable dogs and bringing them to our campus where we can give them the care they need including spay or neuter surgery and then find them homes of their own.
