StreamWatch Charity Profile

The streams and rivers of the Rivanna basin provide the City of Charlottesville and Albemarle, Fluvanna, and Greene Counties with a wealth of resources and services, including drinking water, recreational opportunities, waste treatment capability, wildlife habitat, and aesthetic enhancement. However, a large portion of the basin’s waterways are impacted by human activities, and a majority of StreamWatch’s representative monitoring sites do not meet the Virginia water quality standard for aquatic life.

StreamWatch Volunteer Information

StreamWatch volunteers monitor stream conditions in order to help the community protect water quality and stream health. Currently, most of our effort is directed towards benthic macroinvertebrate sampling.
