Central Asia Desertification Problems Charity Profile

The international community has long recognized that desertification - a major economic, social and environmental problem for many countries throughout the world. Conference on Environment and Development, held in 1992 in Rio de Janeiro, expressed support for a new integrated approach to address this issue, stressing the need to take action in order to promote sustainable development in local communities and appealed to the UN General Assembly with call for the establishment of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee to develop by June 1994 a special convention to combat desertification. In December 1992, the General Assembly agreed to this proposal, by resolution 47/188. The Committee concluded its discussions in Paris on 17 June 1994 (since that day, declared a World Day to Combat Desertification). The full title of the Convention - United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification in those countries that ispytvayut Serious Drought and / or Desertification, Particularly in Africa.
