The Rowans Hospice Charity Profile
The Rowans Hospice is a local charity, which provides specialist Hospice care and support to patients with life limiting illness living in Portsmouth and South East Hampshire, their relatives and carers.
Our multi-professional team strives to create an environment which is conducive to the physical, social, emotional and spiritual well being of all people referred to our service. You can access all our services and facilities by visiting the What we do section and Education section.
All the care given is without charge, however, we do rely on support from the community. There are many ways that you can help The Rowans Hospice, including volunteering.
"The Rowans Hospice exists to enhance the quality of life for those suffering from a life-limiting illness. It supports patients and carers in the belief that each person is entitled to dignity and choice with the best provision of care."
The Rowans Hospice Volunteer Information
If you have a few hours to spare, and would like to join our team of motivated, caring and supportive Volunteers, The Rowans Hospice would greatly appreciate your help.
The ethos and foundation of the Hospice movement is that it involves the community, caring for its members at the end of their lives.
In support of our aims to provide a specialist Hospice Care Service for patients and their carers, The Rowans Hospice welcomes and supports the involvement of Volunteers.
Participation of Volunteers is vital to the work we do, they are a necessary and valued part of our Hospice. There is an extensive choice of Volunteering roles.
Full training is given and being part of The Rowans Hospice Team is something really special.
We ask our Volunteers to spare a few hours of their time on either a regular or casual basis. If you feel you would like to support The Rowans Hospice as a Volunteer, and you are 16 years of age or older, we would be delighted to hear from you.
Volunteers are always needed in the following areas within The Rowans Hospice:
Gardeners to help maintain our beautiful gardens, some heavy work involved.If you can spare a few hours a week we should love to hear from you.
Help wanted on the wards, Monday-Friday,serving patients breakfast. Also weekends for breakfast, lunch and suppers.
Experienced flower arrangers who can spare approximately four hours a month to arrange flowers in the patient's rooms and the communal areas.
Drivers who can spare a couple of hours on a Monday evening once a month for our Relatives Evening.
Physically fit person to help distribute retail bags and collect donations throughout our catchment area. Some heavy lifting involved. Hours are one whole day a week to suit.
Our service is entirely free and our Voluntary Staff are expected to mirror the quality of care delivered by the Professional Staff and to work in a professional manner.We have a Team of 400 people aged from 16 - 80, with a wide range of backgrounds. On average our Volunteers provide a total of over 3,000 hours per month to the operation of the Hospice.

The Rowans Hospice Donation Information
Donation at any level helps us to continue providing the highest standards of care, with over 80p in every £1 of our income spent on the costs of direct patient care.
