The Children's Trust Charity Profile
The Children’s Trust is a national charity working with children who have multiple disabilities and complex health needs. We are based at a 24 acre site in Tadworth, Surrey but offer our services to children from across the UK.
The Trust offers a unique combination of skills and experience in meeting the complex needs of children with profound disabilities.
Our services comprise:
Short, medium and long term residential care and therapy
Residential rehabilitation for children with an acquired brain injury
Community-based rehabilitation for children returning to home/school after a brain injury
Special education for pupils with profound and multiple learning disabilities at St Margaret’s School
Short breaks (either at our site in Tadworth or in the family home)
Transitional care for children who are dependent on a ventilator or complex tracheostomy
Hospice/ palliative care
Our transitional care unit for technology-dependent children won the Healthcare and Medical Research category at The Charity Awards 2007 and we were voted the top charitable organisation for nurses to work for in the Nursing Times awards.
The specialist services we provide come at a cost which is not fully met by statutory sources, so we rely on voluntary donations from our supporters to meet the full cost. Click here to find out about our fundraising work.

The Children's Trust Volunteer Information
We have over 300 registered volunteers, and over 100 will be active at any one time. They come from all walks of life, and are an important part of our workforce. Last year they gave 46,500 hours of their time. Some come wanting the opportunity to brush up on rusty skills or learn new ones, some to enjoy the company, the involvement and unique Children’s Trust atmosphere, but all are determined to support the Trust in providing the best possible support to profoundly disabled children and their families.
We are proud to have been voted the 'Best Charity to Work For' in the UK 2005 Charity Awards. Volunteers can be found helping with pool and therapy sessions, helping on outings and in the classroom, helping at mealtimes, reading to the children or entertaining them, driving our mini-buses taking children on outings or to hospital appointments, working in admin roles, helping in our library, collecting and delivering our charity collection boxes, working in our charity shops, organising fundraising events, the list goes on…
"I really look forward to coming in on Thursdays and catching up with the children and what they have been doing. I am made to feel part of the team and my contribution is important and appreciated” Alma Murch, volunteer
Many volunteers have been with us for years and each year we acknowledge this with long service awards. Our designated Volunteers department works hard to keep all volunteers up to date with news and events, to keep them involved in Trust life and to make sure their contribution is properly acknowledged!
Each year our staff nominate volunteers to receive the Trust’s Volunteer of the Year awards. Acknowledgement of our volunteers also extends beyond the Trust, with some of our deserving volunteers receiving local and national voluntary services awards.
"It’s fun taking the children horseriding for the disabled each week, it seems such an easy thing to do but gives them so much benefit and pleasure” Norman Bird, volunteer
We are also proud to be one of the first organisations in the country to achieve the Investing in Volunteers award, which recognises our commitment to the voluntary workforce.
