St Elizabeth's Centre Charity Profile
St Elizabeth’s Centre, a registered charity founded and administered by the Daughters of the Cross of Liege, may have grown and developed since it opened in 1903, but it has always kept its very personalised service for the adults and children and the ethos of the founding Sisters still permeates the Centre.
Whilst St. Elizabeth’s remains a Catholic Centre, staff, residents and children from all or no faith groups are welcome and we make every effort to support our residents and children in remaining active members of their preferred church.
St Elizabeth’s benefits from being very much a part of the Much Hadham village community and we also enjoy the support of people from the neighbouring towns and villages.
One parent commented;
'you have the best of both worlds, you live in a beautiful country setting yet you are only fifteen minutes from the nearest town, thirty five minutes by rail from London and thirty minutes from Stansted airport.'
Today the Centre employs over 600 staff, and all are welcomed as part of the community of St Elizabeth’s, where each person is valued and treated with dignity and respect.
Twenty four hour cover is provided by the School, College and Home sector staff, supported by a comprehensive Central Services team.
The School, College and Home receive operational funding from Local Education Authorities, Social Services, Learning and Skills Council and Primary Care Trusts.
We have an ongoing fundraising programme to provide new buildings, improvements, specialist equipment, day trips and holidays, for which we receive no statutory funding. To find out how you can help please see our Support Us page.
In 2003 a strategic review of St Elizabeth’s Centre was carried out, a copy of the review document and business plan can be viewed here: Strategic Review
One of the capital projects highlighted in the review was the replacement of the Day Centre facility. This is our latest project: Download Brochure

St Elizabeth's Centre Volunteer Information
There are many ways in which you can support St Elizabeth’s Centre;
Volunteering :
Each year we have volunteers from around the world, they come to us via CSV and other similar organisations. These volunteers work in care and support roles across the Centre.
Company volunteers can spend a day or two doing a variety of jobs around the Centre from gardening and decorating to working in the orchard!
We always welcome volunteers to help with our fundraising events, either cake making, helping to set up, providing entertainment, manning a stall at the Summer Fayre or Christmas Bazaar , the list is endless…
Volunteers play an important role in helping run our Charity Shops. Currently these are in Bishop’s Stortford , but we aim to expand our range in the near future.
