Wood Green Animal Shelters Charity Profile
Our mission:
To take in unwanted and lost animals, provide shelter and care, find secure and loving homes, provide advice, support and guidance for pet owners and increase the public’s awareness of its responsibility towards animals in society.
Who we are
Wood Green Animal Shelters was founded in 1924 and our original mission was to help alleviate the problem of abandoned and injured animals on the streets of London after the First World War. Since then we have grown to become one of the leading animal welfare organisations in the UK.
Today we have Shelters in Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire, as well as the original Shelter in North London. Each year we find loving new homes for around 5,500 lost and unwanted animals. As well as thousands of cats and dogs, we rehome many ponies, rabbits, mice, guinea pigs, goats, sheep, ferrets and more.
Our dedicated veterinary team saves the lives of countless animals every year as well as providing thousands with essential medical treatments, including, vaccinations and neutering procedures.
Every animal that comes through our doors is assessed by our experienced team so we can find a home that is right for them and their new family. Some animals need longer with us than others before they are ready to be rehomed and we do whatever it takes.
