Feeding Futures Charity Profile
Feeding Futures is a charity founded to provide nutritious and substantial school meals for the children of St Brendan's Primary School at Ngwataniro, in the Molo region of the Rift Valley, in Kenya. Charitable status with the Charity Commission was achieved in May 2010. Our charity number is 1136009. Feeding Futures has built and equipped a kitchen at the school where food can be prepared. A large food store has also built to hold dried goods bought in bulk. Now we need the ongoing funds to provide a substantial and nutritious cooked meal, at about 30p apiece all-in, for the school's 700 pupils – many of whom suffer from poor nutrition. We are thrilled that each child has received THREE meals a week at school since September 2010 and FOUR meals a week since mid June 2011. Due to the severe food shortage, we have taken a leap of faith We hope, before long, to be able to extend this to one meal per child per day.
Feeding Futures Volunteer Information
To provide school dinners we need a continuing supply of food and the means to prepare and cook it. The capital costs of the kitchen and equipment needed to cook the meals (£5,000) has already been raised by Feeding Futures and a kitchen and store have been built. The need now is of ongoing sponsorship to fund the day-to-day costs of providing the food itself. One school has already twinned with St Brendan's and is providing support – and pen-friendships are being struck up between children. The involvement and help of other individuals, schools, youth groups, churches and organisations would be greatly welcomed.
