The Medical Engineering Resource Unit Charity Profile
MERU is a charity that exists to improve life for children and young people with severe disabilities. We do this by using our design and engineering skills to make individual pieces of specialist equipment they can use at home, at school or college, in hospital or at play.
After more than 35 years at the former Queen Maryís Hospital for Children in Carshalton, MERU has moved to new premises in Epsom. The move became necessary because the Queen Maryís site is being redeveloped.
MERU now operates from a modern light industrial unit in nearby Epsom. This offers more suitable premises for manufacturing and is only a convenient 20-minute drive from our former home. This means we can offer an improved service, not only to our former local area in Sutton but to the rest of our clients and potential clients all over London and the South East.
The Medical Engineering Resource Unit Volunteer Information
Our volunteer workforce has a diverse mix of ages, cultures and backgrounds, and each volunteer brings us valuable time, knowledge and skills.
MERUís volunteers work closely with staff, to enhance and develop the work we do in all areas of the organisation. We rely on their support - could you be one of them? For example:
Do you have the design, technical or manufacturing skills that could help us create a product to change a young personís life?
Could you provide us with administration or communications support?
Do you have some experience of disability yourself?
