Haykod Charity Profile
In 1955, Mr. Celal Bayar, the President of the Turkish Republic, and three thousand VIP members established this association and the shelter. The association was in turn given the special title of Working for the Public Welfare in 1956 by The Council of Ministers. This exclusive status is equivalent to the IRS section 501(c) (3) non-profit status. The initial title of the association was first established as the Turkish Association for the Protection and Enhancement of Animals (Türkiye Hayvanlar? Koruma ve Geli?tirme Derne?i). The association began its work in earnest with high hopes of improving the lives of all animals in Turkey.
The mission of HAYKOD is: If there is any hope for an animal -any hope at all - we create that hope. Nothing will stop us us from supplying a happy life to that animal until the end of its natural lifetime. This is our commitment because we are the worlds' largest no-kill animal sanctuary.
