Admiral Nimitz Foundation Charity Profile
The National Museum of the Pacific War is the only institution in the continental United States dedicated exclusively to telling the story of the Pacific Theater battles of World War II. Located on a six-acre site, the Center includes the George Bush Gallery, Admiral Nimitz Museum, Plaza of Presidents, Veterans' Walk of Honor, Japanese Garden of Peace, Pacific Combat Zone, and the Center for Pacific War Studies.
Originally named The Admiral Nimitz Museum and housed solely in the historic Nimitz Hotel, the Museum has grown into a dynamic, first-class experience that can be enjoyed by people of all ages and from all backgrounds. In addition to nearly 34,000 square feet of indoor exhibit space, the museum boasts an impressive display of Allied and Japanese aircraft, tanks, guns and other large artifacts made famous during the Pacific War campaigns. An additional 40,000-foot expansion is planned for the Museum's future.
Admiral Nimitz Foundation Volunteer Information
There is an active group who work with the education department, with individuals taking the lead as docent guides for the school tours. Other volunteers fill in as drivers for speakers, assist with the audio-visual, and run the poster signing during the symposia series. Some volunteers enjoy participating as re-enactors for the living history demonstrations. There is a great need for volunteers to serve as oral history interviewers and transcribers. The museum could not operate without the generosity of the volunteers at every level.
Admiral Nimitz Foundation Donation Information
The Museum's collection of artifacts from the Pacific War totals well over 15,000 and contains everything from beer passes on Mog Mog Island to aircraft and tanks. Thousands of new donations come in every year. Many of these items are on display in the permanent and temporary exhibits of the Museum, and many more are rotated between preservation storage and exhibit on a regular basis.
