Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity Charity Profile
Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity is a Christian ministry that builds quality, affordable homes in partnership with deserving families.
Since our incorporation in 1986, Dallas Habitat and its contributors have built over 700 homes and served as a catalyst for the revitalization of more than 20 communities.
Each year we partner with hardworking families and the community to build 70+ homes, making Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity the largest nonprofit homebuilder and the sixth largest homebuilder overall in the City of Dallas, as well as the third largest Habitat affiliate in the United States.
Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity Volunteer Information
Volunteering with Dallas Habitat is a great way to meet new friends and learn new skills. There are many opportunities to become involved, and we are thankful for the enthusiasm, time and talents of each volunteer who enables us to better serve our families.
During the week we offer volunteer building opportunities Monday through Saturday. We ask individual volunteers to complete volunteer training and commit at least one day per month, building 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., so they can gain experience. Individual volunteers are considered core volunteers and are expected to help our staff supervisors teach and train inexperienced volunteers.
Youth volunteers must abide by the following age restrictions on the construction site:
Under 14 years of age: not allowed on site during any phase of construction
14- and 15- year-olds: allowed to participate in landscaping and clean up near the end of the house build; must have one adult supervisor per youth
16- and 17- year-olds: allowed to participate in construction, but not get on the roof or operate power tools; must have one adult supervisor per 5 youth.
