Special Olympics Tennessee Charity Profile
To provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community
Goals: Special Olympics Tennessee is a program which through quality sports training and competition improves the lives of people with intellectual disabilities and, in turn, the lives of everyone they encounter. SOTN strives to empower the people we serve by helping them to realize their full potential and develop skills through year-round sports training and competition.
Special Olympics Tennessee Volunteer Information
Volunteers are the backbone of Special Olympics Tennessee. If you're seeking a volunteer opportunity that can make a difference in your life and lives of others, Special Olympics needs you.
Special Olympics Tennessee offers a wide range of involvement with athletes so you can pick the activity that best fits your lifestyle.
EVENT VOLUNTEERS: Help out with various roles, such as scorekeeping, timing, awards. 1-6 hrs/1-3 days during an event.
COACH: Works directly with athletes in specific sports. 2 hrs/week for 8 wks leading up to competition.
AREA MGMT. TEAM MEMBER: Assist in year-round organization and development of county level programs in your area. To view how the areas of the state are divided, please go to Program/Map section on our Home Page. 2-4 hrs./year-round
GAMES MGMT. TEAM MEMBERS: Organizes & implements sporting events at the area or state level. 1-2hrs./every other wk., 3-4 months prior to an event.
FUNDRAISING: Assist with planning and conducting an area or state level fundraising activity. Time commitments vary.
MEDICAL VOLUNTEERS: Assist on day of event with first aid. (Must have EMT certification, RN, PA or MD)
SPORTS DIRECTOR: Oversees all aspects of specific sports; such as heating, scheduling, overseeing officials, overseeing training clinics and authority in regards to event protests. Time commitments vary.

Special Olympics Tennessee Donation Information
Special Olympics Tennessee is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization that is not funded by government agencies. Funding comes from individuals, organizations, corporate sponsorships, special events and grants. SOTN strives to meet its goal to ensure that more than 70% of funds are used for program delivery for the athletes. All contributions to Special Olympics Tennessee are tax deductible.
